From That’sFit:
Do you know how you can buy a size 10 in one store and have it fit perfectly, but a 12 is too tight in the next? That won’t happen anymore in Spain, and major designers like Zara and Cortefiel have agreed to participate. In addition, store mannequins are getting a makeover. Participating stores will be required to create window displays with clothing no smaller than a size 40 (an 8 in the United States). In addition, a size 46 (a U.S. size 16) will no longer be labeled as “plus-size.”
Also, RE: the heartbreaking shooting that took place on Friday night that has, unfortunately, spurred a piece of legislation that is total crap (read up here). I emailed this to the councilmembers:
Hello,
My name is Rebecca Armendariz and I am a resident of the U St. corridor. I currently work nights in the box office at the 9:30 Club, and our business and status as a staple of D.C. nightlife and culture would be greatly affected by the proposed ban on underage citizens from nightclubs. This bill will prevent already undeserved young people from enjoying live music and dancing
at clubs like the Florida Market Lounge and Black Cat that derive their revenue from alcohol sales. Underage music fans and alcohol have coexisted at these venues for decades. I have personally witnessed the prevention of underage drinking at my workplace, and with our security staff of 20 +, we have never had a problem enforcing D.C. law. Banning young people will not prevent random acts of violence, but it will deprive them of a necessary and overwhelmingly safe space to congregate, connect and enjoy live music. Please tell the councilmember to vote against this unnecessary and harmful legislation. Thank you very much for your time.
Rebecca Armendariz
I received an email and two phone calls in return. I received a follow-up call this morning from one of the dudes who informed me of the hearing taking place today and gave me the number of the committee holding it. I must say, I am very pleased with democracy in action!
