homophobia is now totally ok!

February 5, 2007

The Beautiful Kenny [5:45 P.M.]: Rebecca is on the war path!

Indeed I am, Kenny, indeed I am.
First, watch the commercial here.

Then, I was going to point to the “alternate” commercials (wherein the guys beat the crap out of each other and THEN drink poison), but it appears that Snickers has taken down the ads! Bravo!

I have been arguing with people all day in the comments section of Kenny’s blog. Check it out:
Worth Repeating.

Some of the highlights:
hmm.. why don’t we all just complain some more? bitching about the commercial isn’t going to make people like gays if they don’t. these days everyone gets a kick out of making fun of people because people respond to it and thinks it’s funny. EVERYONE gets cracked on- stop acting like “gays” are the only ones.

My response: manda0panda0 : and when homosexuals are afforded all of the rights that heterosexuals are and are treated as equals, then it will be appropriate to “crack on” them. until then, sorry.

Dear Ben of Ben’s Espresso:

You hut of warmth and caffeine is conveniently located on the corner near my boyfriend’s place of work. I enjoy the thick richness of your roast and how two equals and a spot of cream never fails to create the perfect cuppa for my morning fix. However, for the past week, you have been MOST notably absent. What am I to look forward to as I drift into sleep? In the past, your welcoming stand was the highlight of my dreams. This diagram shows how my mornings currently play out. Notice how the void isn’t exactly empty but is very much not filled by the inferior Starbucks.
Love, Rebecca

I also wanted to write a bit about Jesus Camp, which Chris and I watched last week. It’s obviously insane and you need to see the beauty of the rattail that is profiled to believe it. What I’m most intrigued by, however, is the fact that the documentary doesn’t take sides. The film distributors got angry when Michael Moore chose it to be part of his film festival, and they claim that it’s not supposed to show Evangelicals in a positive or negative light. Evangelicals have seen the documentary and given favorable reviews. Liberals have seen it and praised it for being insightful and a sort of expose. It’s amazing to me that different sects of people can view the same work in an entirely different manner. For me to watch it and be shocked, appalled and frightened and then for another person to watch it and be proud, hopeful and inspired makes me think.
