email records

October 6, 2009

October was the month two years ago that Clark and I got serious about our relationship. We met over Labor Day weekend, as previously reported, and then the Tuesday afterward, I went to see Editors at the club, gave him a little drunky dial, and don’t remember what I said. When I woke up the next morning, I had a voicemail from him that said: “Hey, it’s Clark. Sorry I didn’t answer the phone, I was making T-shirts allll night. So, uh, give me a call back, because we need to talk.” When I heard that, I crumbled into a pile of shame. I called him back right away, apologized for things I probably said, and didn’t hear from him again!

I couldn’t stop thinking about him, though, so I sent him an email on the 11th after searching the Internet for his email address:

“hey – i’m on the internet all day, so i thought to stalk you via google and then send you a treat to read. how’s your week?
wondering if you would want to get a drink or hang out later on in the evening tomorrow? let me know.
rebecca”

To which he replied:

“stalking is awesome. Glad to here from you. Its been a long week already. Tomorrow…hmmm, I dunno. Its a bit complicated to explain but I’m taking some time off on dating. I’ve screwed myself up pretty bad as of late. i was also a man slut and feel terrible about it. I need to get my head on straight before entertaining anything. I hope you understand. Can we keep talking though?”

According to email records, he texted me late on the night of the 12th. Then we made plans the night of the 13th. Email: “Yeah that sounds cool. I don;t know where I’ll be but give a ring and we can work it out. I’m not moving too fast am I? I will be honest and say i want to take this nice and slow but, I do love your company.”

Then I can tell there was a bout of him not really responding to me for a few days as evidenced by a string of emails from the 18th. Then it appears that we were dating by the 24th, where we made plans to meet and eat Greek Spot before I had to go to work at the club.

On the 28th, he sent me an email asking the question: “How is my sexy, passionate, strong, brilliant women doing this morning?” I remember pasting it to Jessica immediately over gchat, and we collectively forgave him for spelling “woman” wrong. Before this, I had complained to her that Clark had taken a shine to coming over to my apartment, eating all of my food (not much has changed about my purchasing habits — all I ever have are crackers, cheese, peanut butter and the makings for spaghetti). “He came over and ate all my havarti!” I would say. Later in this same email chain, he said I was ” someone I thank my lucky stars had the balls to talk to me, because my heart lights up, every single time I see you. never go away.”

Clark signed an email from 10/4/07 “Love you baby. I miss you.” And I signed an email with an “I love you!” the same day.

I’m so glad I have these emails because they enable me to piece together a time where things moved too quickly for me to keep track of them.
